[Takumi Series] Yushima Art Decorated Series, Vol.2!! An Exquisite Artwork Dressed in Japanese Washi Paper!! Sofubi x Washi Paper

Yushima Art Decorated Series, Vol.2! Sofubi items decorated by Yushima Art the Sunago-shi, who applys decoration on Washi paper, will go on sale at T-BASE JAPAN Ginza Gallery on Sun, June 11, 2023, from 12 pm!

Visitors can see the artworks from Mon, June 5 to Sat, June 10 during the exhibition period.

▼ Introduction of Items:

“HOUND DRAGONS”

It wears the constellation: “Draco (Dragon)” on its chest.

*The clear HOUND DRAGONS: clad with “planets” (like Earth, Jupiter, etc.) along with the constellation.
*The HOUND DRAGONS with color gradation: decorated by pasting very thin Washi paper and applying paint.
We added a gradation of colors like the sky at dawn.

“BEN THE GHOST CAT”

Polaris, Gemini, Orion, Ursa Minor, Ursa Major, Draco, etc.

A Ghost Cat, wandering in outer space…
Constellations in the front side: Polaris, Gemini, Orion, etc. on the head
Constellations on the back side: Polaris, Ursa Minor, Ursa Major, Draco, etc. on the center of the body

“DORAPOLYGON”

They wear the constellation: “Draco (Dragon)” on their chest.
Both heads were “dyed”.
As for the body parts:
*The DORAPOLYGON with color gradation: very thin Japanese Washi paper is painted.　
*The clear DORAPOLYGON: a round gold star (dot) on its back.

“Tenshi, Tenshi Fukazume”

Tenshi is clad with the constellation, Libra.
On its back are the constellation Libra and silver Sunago (sand).
On its front body is gold Sunago (sand).

If the Sofubi figures have gone to space… they have came back with constellations on their bodies. Each of them wears a constellation on their bodies. A small decorative display stand of an image of the space (Sunago decorated panel) will also come along with the figures. We hope you enjoy the warmth of the unique handmade artworks.

◆ Decoration Method:
● About the technique:　
The “Haku-zaiku” decoration technique using metallic foil is applied. Foils of constellations and planets are first pasted on the Washi paper, then cut out, and finally pasted on the body.

Yushima Art:

Sunago-shi, craftsmen who use real gold or silver foil to decorate “Washi” (Japanese paper). They are based in Yushima, Tokyo, and mainly work mainly at the workshop in Kashiwa, Chiba Prefecture.

“Sunago-shi” are craftsmen skilled in decoration techniques such as “Kin-Gin Sunago (Gold and Silver Sand)”. They decorate Washi-paper using the Sunago, which is powdered metal foil, such as Gold or silver leaf.
The foil is crushed finely by aligning the grain with a tube, sprinkled and pressed into several layers to create the color gradation.

Sunago is also sung in the Tanabata songs, like “Sasa-no-ha-sara-sara…kin-gin-sunago….”.
