Have you ever heard of “the legendary SFX show” that fascinated many kids back in the day? That is, “Bouken Rockbat”.
Who is Bouken Rockbat, so loved in the Showa Era?
In 1975, “Boken Rockbat” was produced by P-Production and was a 5-minute TV series with a total of 156 episodes. Although the production budget amounted to only 200,000 yen, the program was of high quality for that time, due to some creative efforts in filming, such as using movie theaters and amusement parks that were to be demolished.
The main character, Rockbat, has a built-in bat umbrella on top of his head that opens so that he can fly. Yet Rockbat is a goofy, well-mannered fellow. He screws up every time and has to be helped by his brother and buddy, Blazer. This comedy SFX show of the somehow lovable Rockbat fascinated children at the time.
Taking on the challenge of sculpting Rockbat this time was Mr. Kimura from Kimura Toy, who has created a significant number of artworks. The artwork was created with delicate and warm clay modeling. Unique to Sofvi figures, there is a sense of nostalgia and comfort.
In addition, the well-balanced and deformed proportion creates an even more ‘retro’ atmosphere.
